About Us

The Probus Club movement began in Welwyn Garden City in 1965. Fred Carnill, a member of the Welwyn Garden City Rotary Club, met other retired friends for morning coffee – mostly ex-commuters to London with professional and business backgrounds. From this, he started a luncheon club. The Rotary Club president arranged the first meeting and 45 men attended. The meeting was held overlooking ‘The Campus’ in the heart of town and ‘The Campus Club’ was born.

We meet on the first Thursday of each month at the Homestead Court Hotel in Welwyn Garden City. Most of us arrive in plenty of time to have a drink. Lunch is served at 12:45, followed by a lecture from a guest speaker. Meetings end about 3:30 pm.

Members pay an annual subscription of £30, with the three-course lunch being £30 per month. If you choose to attend an outing, the cost will vary.
