2 July 2026 Lecture
Robin Moobs gave an interesting lecture on space tourism, from the first person to pay their own way into space back in 2001, to the present day, and a peak into what may be coming. Robin talked about challenges space tourists face, from being allowed less then 1 kg of personal items, to all clothes being destroyed once worn.
Space tourist training takes more than a year, with strenuous tests including the notorious aerotrim device that spins you around all three axis simultaneously. Once in space a tourist must contend with the effects of weightlessness, such as bloated face and loss of taste. Of course no talk on space would be complete without mentioning the famous space toilet, and what happens when it breaks….
On a lighter note, Robin was on the team from the National Space Academy that worked with astronaut Tim Peake to design a series of experiments that he performed on the International Space Station. Robin explained one of them, but they can all be found on Astro Academy: Principia
Thank you Robin and the National Space Academy for an interesting lecture
